The last major track construction was in 1950 when the Battles Branch was built to service a refinery. Plans call for the construction of a locomotive shop and equipment maintenance area as well as display tracks. Two of Utah's interurban companies--the Utah Idaho Central in the north and the Salt Lake and Utah in the south--were able to hold on only until the late 1940s. This branch line was originally constructed in 1912 by the Southern Pacific Railroad between Candy and Molalla. Nearly all Northern states abolish slavery by this time. Just as the train parted, passenger train Number 33 was slowing down for the stop at Connor's. In 1873, the H&TC continued to build northward to Sherman, connecting with the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad. The rail is in place between Edinburg and Mt. Jackson, but has been taken out of service. It is on this route that the Union Pacific operates today.
